Ukrainian Adviser Says Russian Mesh Repeaters in Kyiv Are Blunting Drone Jamming Around the Capital
A radio specialist advising Ukraine’s defence minister says one to three Russian ground‑based mesh repeaters are operating inside Kyiv, helping guide Shahed‑type drones in their final approach and limiting the city’s electronic warfare advantage.
A senior adviser to Ukraine’s defence minister says Russian forces are using covert communications equipment inside Kyiv to help steer attack drones through the city’s electronic defences.
The adviser, a radio specialist known as Serhii “Flash,” believes Russian units are using one to three ground‑based mesh repeaters in the capital. In his assessment, these devices provide short‑term online control of Shahed‑type drones on the final part of their flight.
Flash says the repeaters are activated only briefly, which makes them difficult to detect. He argues that as long as they remain in place, attempts to protect Kyiv with electronic warfare systems will not be fully effective.
Ukrainian authorities have not publicly confirmed specific devices or locations, and independent technical evidence is not available in the reported material. The comments come as Kyiv faces heavy drone attacks, including a night when the Air Force says Russia launched 157 UAVs of various types and 131 were shot down or suppressed, while Russian Geran‑4/5 drones still hit bridges, warehouses and logistics hubs.
If Flash’s assessment is accurate, it suggests Russian operators have managed to place small but important control nodes inside Ukraine’s largest city, turning parts of the urban area into support points for incoming drones.
The next signs to watch include any public confirmation by Ukrainian security services, announcements that suspected repeaters have been found or neutralised, and changes in how Russian drones behave over Kyiv in the final seconds before impact.
