Ukraine’s National Guard Receives 10 More Domestically Built MRAPs, 80 Still to Come
The Ukrainian National Guard has taken delivery of a second batch of 10 mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles from local firm Ukrainian Armored Vehicles, with 80 more expected under the same contract.
Ukraine’s National Guard has expanded its armored fleet with more vehicles built inside the country. The force received a second batch of 10 mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles (MRAPs) produced by the company Ukrainian Armored Vehicles, according to a 27 September report. Another 80 MRAPs are expected to be delivered under the same contract.
MRAPs are designed to protect troops from roadside bombs, landmines and small-arms fire, threats that are common along Ukraine’s front lines and in rear areas targeted by sabotage or artillery. Their armored hulls and elevated, reinforced cabins aim to keep occupants alive when blasts or gunfire hit the vehicle.
For the National Guard, which combines frontline duties with internal security tasks, the arrival of additional MRAPs improves protected mobility for patrols, convoy escorts and troop movements. Each new vehicle reduces the need to use unarmored or lightly protected transport in high-risk zones.
The deliveries also underscore the role of Ukraine’s domestic defense industry in sustaining the war effort. Ukrainian Armored Vehicles is supplying these MRAPs while the country remains under regular attack, an indication that some industrial capacity continues to function despite air raids and power disruptions.
How quickly the remaining 80 vehicles are produced and handed over, and where the National Guard chooses to deploy them, will offer further clues about both Ukraine’s industrial resilience and evolving battlefield needs.
