Russian Geran Drone Strikes Ignite Fires at Kyiv-Area Warehouses and Hit Multiple Districts
Russian forces struck several locations in Kyiv City and Kyiv Oblast overnight with Geran-4 and Geran-5 jet-drones, triggering large fires at a warehouse facility in Krasylivka and explosions across multiple districts and satellite towns.
Russian attacks on the Kyiv region overnight set a warehouse facility ablaze and sent explosions echoing across the capital’s neighborhoods and surrounding towns.
According to Ukrainian and open-source reporting, Russia used Geran-4 and Geran-5 jet-powered drones to hit several targets in Kyiv City and Kyiv Oblast in the early hours of 27 September. Explosions were heard in the Kyiv city districts of Chokolivka, Solom’yanskyi, Shuliavka, Vidradnyi and Zhuliany, and in the cities of Vasylkiv, Brovary, Borodyanka and Irpin, as well as the towns of Litky, Krasylivka, Hlevakha and Hatne.
NASA’s Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS), which detects heat signatures from space, showed large fires at a warehouse facility in the town of Krasylivka after the overnight strikes. The data points to a significant blaze at that site, though the contents of the warehouses and the full extent of the damage were not detailed in the initial reporting.
Separate reports described a mass drone attack that hit logistical depots and commercial infrastructure in the wider Kyiv metropolitan area. Ukrainian authorities had not yet provided a comprehensive damage assessment or casualty figures by early morning, and some information about specific targets remained incomplete.
Russian use of Geran-series drones in this way forces Ukraine to keep defending dense urban and semi-urban areas around the capital while also protecting energy sites and military facilities elsewhere. Intercepting such drones across a broad area requires radar coverage and interceptor stockpiles that are already under pressure.
Kyiv’s metropolitan area functions as a major hub for commercial storage and logistics. Strikes on warehouses and depots there can disrupt the movement of goods through the region’s supply chains, though the immediate economic impact of this particular attack wave is not yet clear from available information.
Future Ukrainian statements on damage and any revealed targeting patterns, as well as any follow-on Russian strikes against similar facilities, will help show whether this was a one-off concentration on logistics in the Kyiv area or part of a sustained campaign against those sites.
