Mass Ukrainian Drone Barrage Hits Russia’s Rostov Region, Leaving Homes and Gas Lines Damaged

Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed its forces shot down 689 Ukrainian drones launched against multiple regions during the night of 17–18 September. That number could not be independently verified, and the ministry did not provide a breakdown by region. But in Rostov, a key region bordering Ukraine and home to major military facilities, the governor reported “a mass drone attack” that forced air defenses into action once again.
According to regional authorities, more than 50 drones were destroyed over the Rostov region alone. Falling debris and blast effects nonetheless damaged five private homes and eight apartment buildings, as well as gas pipelines and eight vehicles. In total, officials said 13 homes and eight vehicles were affected.
