Russia Claims It Shot Down 689 Ukrainian Drones Overnight as Rostov Suffers Damage
Russia’s Defense Ministry says its air defenses downed 689 Ukrainian drones over several regions in one night, including more than 50 over Rostov, where homes, apartment blocks, gas pipelines, and vehicles were damaged. The claim can’t be independently verified.
Russia says it faced one of the largest drone barrages of the war, claiming that its air defenses shot down 689 Ukrainian drones over multiple regions overnight.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the drones were intercepted across several parts of the country. Regional authorities in the Rostov region, near the Ukrainian border, said the area again came under a mass drone attack.
The Rostov governor reported that more than 50 drones were destroyed over the region. Despite those interceptions, officials said five private homes and eight apartment buildings were damaged, along with gas pipelines and eight vehicles. In total across the affected areas, 13 homes and eight vehicles were reported damaged.
None of these figures can be independently confirmed. Both sides have strong incentives to shape the public picture of the drone war: Russia to demonstrate that its defenses are effective, Ukraine to show it can reach deep into Russian territory.
