Zelensky–Trump Meeting Planned at UN in New York as Ukraine Seeks New US Support Packages

A spokesperson for Ukraine’s foreign ministry said Ukraine and the United States are preparing a meeting between President Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump next week in New York, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. The spokesperson said Ukraine plans to sign six bilateral documents during the gathering, but their content has not yet been disclosed.
In a separate address, Zelensky said Ukraine is preparing a broader meeting with partners in the United States that will focus on peace negotiations and several other key issues: energy, food security and weapons. He said new support packages for Ukraine are expected, including air defense.
Zelensky also said Ukraine is working to expand what he called an anti-ballistic coalition. He stated that the goal is to prepare, within this year, a system that will deliver results. According to Zelensky, some of Europe’s strongest companies capable of contributing to anti-ballistic defense are already taking part in Ukraine’s FREYJA program.
The combination of planned bilateral documents at the UN, expected new support packages and work on the anti-ballistic coalition shows Kyiv trying to broaden and formalize backing from partners while the war continues. How much new support is actually pledged in New York, and whether details emerge on the six documents and the FREYJA program, will determine how far this diplomatic push goes beyond announcements.
