Massive Blast Near Kyiv Highway Highlights Reported Russian Strike on Ammunition Depot

A giant explosion and secondary blasts near the M06 Zhytomyr highway in Kyiv region’s Bucha district followed a reported Russian drone strike on an ammunition depot.

A major explosion near one of Kyiv’s main western highways has underscored the vulnerability of logistics hubs around the capital as Russian forces step up drone and missile attacks.

Footage from the Bucha district shows a large fireball, a shockwave and apparent secondary detonations close to the M06 Zhytomyr highway. Kyiv regional authorities said warehouse facilities were burning after an attack and that explosions accompanied the fire.

Traffic was temporarily blocked for all vehicles on the M‑06 Kyiv–Chop highway between the 15th and 32nd kilometer marks in both directions as emergency services responded, according to regional officials.

Multiple accounts, including strike-tracking channels, reported that a Russian Geran‑4 jet-powered drone hit an ammunition depot in the village of Myla in Kyiv Oblast, resulting in a large secondary detonation and subsequent fire. These reports said the facility appeared to be used to store rockets, artillery shells and missiles. This has not been independently confirmed.

One report provided coordinates for the site near the highway and described repeated blasts consistent with munitions cooking off. Separate footage circulated online showed debris, a shockwave and further explosions after the initial impact.

The incident comes amid what Ukrainian sources describe as a large combined Russian attack on Ukraine using ballistic missiles and hundreds of drones, with fires reported at logistics and warehouse facilities around Kyiv and strikes continuing across several regions.

Observers are watching for additional official statements on the type of facility hit near the M06, satellite imagery to assess damage at the reported ammunition depot in Myla, and any signs that Ukraine is shifting stockpiles away from major transport corridors in response to the threat from long-range drones.
