Ukrainian Drones and Missiles Reportedly Hit Proton Plant and Saratov Oil Refinery Inside Russia
Russia’s Defense Ministry says air defenses shot down 411 Ukrainian drones overnight but concedes the attacks had consequences, with preliminary reports of Flamingo missiles striking the Proton plant in Oryol and drones hitting the Saratov oil refinery, the seventh industrial facility recently targeted.
Ukraine’s war is reaching deeper into Russian territory, with key industrial facilities reportedly hit despite a vast overnight air‑defense effort.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense said on 7 November that its forces shot down 411 Ukrainian drones across several regions during the night. The ministry described the interceptions as proof of effective protection but acknowledged that the attacks still had consequences.
According to preliminary reports, three Flamingo missiles struck the Proton plant in Oryol. In the same wave of attacks, Ukrainian drones reportedly targeted Russia’s Saratov oil refinery, where explosions, fires and air‑defense activity were observed in the area.
Russian‑language channels described a massive nighttime strike on Saratov, with several fire points at the local refinery. The Saratov plant is one of Russia’s older refineries, and its targeting makes it the seventh industrial facility recently reported under attack.
Taken together, the claimed Flamingo missile strikes on the Proton plant and the drone attack on Saratov’s refinery point to a pattern of Ukrainian operations against Russian industrial infrastructure, even as Moscow invests heavily in air defenses across its regions.
What happens next will hinge on independent confirmation of the damage at both sites, any official announcements of outages or shutdowns, and whether similar attacks on Russian industrial targets continue in the coming nights.
