Russian Geran drone launches resume as Kherson ceasefire ends and explosions are reported in city

Russia launched Geran kamikaze drones from Primorsko‑Akhtarsk and occupied Crimea as a localized ceasefire around Oleshky ended; explosions were then reported in Kherson.

Russian forces resumed Geran kamikaze drone launches toward southern Ukraine just as a localized ceasefire in the Kherson region ended, with explosions later reported in Kherson city.

Reports from the ground said drones were launched from Primorsko‑Akhtarsk in Russia and from the Chauda and Hvardiiske areas in occupied Crimea. The same reporting noted that a temporary ceasefire around Oleshky, agreed to enable a humanitarian operation, had come to an end.

Shortly afterward, explosions were reported in Kherson, the Ukrainian‑controlled city on the western bank of the Dnipro River.

The limited truce around Oleshky had allowed civilians in the Russian‑occupied settlement and nearby areas a brief window for movement. Its closure, followed by new drone launches and blasts in Kherson, underlined how quickly conditions can shift back to active combat along the riverfront.

Geran drones, designed to loiter and then strike targets, remain a central tool for Russia’s attempts to harass Ukrainian cities and infrastructure. Launch sites in Primorsko‑Akhtarsk and Crimea give Russian forces reach across much of southern Ukraine.

Signals to watch include whether Russia maintains a high tempo of Geran launches from these locations, any Ukrainian claims about intercepting drones or striking launch areas, and whether similar localized ceasefires are attempted again for humanitarian movements around Oleshky or other settlements.
