Ukrainian drones reported to hit Marinovka airbase and Bashkir Soda plant deep inside Russia

Ukrainian drones reportedly sparked major fires at Marinovka Airbase in Volgograd Oblast and at the Bashkir Soda Company plant in Bashkortostan, striking an airbase used by Su-24 and Su-34 jets and a chemical producer linked to enterprises affiliated with Russia’s defence ministry.

Fires reported at a Russian airbase and at a major industrial facility far from the front lines point to continued Ukrainian drone activity deep inside Russian territory.

NASA FIRMS satellite fire data indicates that a large fire is burning at Marinovka Airbase in Volgograd Oblast after overnight Ukrainian mid-range drone strikes. Marinovka hosts Su-24 and Su-34 aircraft and has previously been hit by Ukrainian drones, which damaged and destroyed four Su-34s in earlier attacks.

In the Republic of Bashkortostan, Ukrainian long-range drones this morning attacked the Bashkir Soda Company in the city of Sterlitamak, according to Ukrainian reporting. A large fire broke out at the plant and continued to grow. Local residents reported smoke and explosions.

The Bashkir Soda Company specialises in sodium carbonate and food-grade soda. According to Ukrainian sources, its products are used by enterprises affiliated with the Russian Ministry of Defence to produce components for Russia’s war effort.

There was no Russian official confirmation in the material provided of the cause or extent of the damage at either site. Open-source satellite and ground imagery, and any Russian statements on aircraft or industrial losses, will show whether these reported strikes translate into significant operational setbacks.
