Russia Declares Local Ceasefire in Oleshky for Humanitarian Operation as Drones Keep Flying

Russia says its forces have halted fire around occupied Oleshky in the Kherson sector for a humanitarian operation, with no violations reported several hours into the pause, while both sides’ drones continue to operate over the area.

A localized ceasefire has taken hold in one corner of the Kherson front, even as aerial surveillance and strike platforms remain active.

Russia’s Defense Ministry announced that its forces stopped firing in the Kherson sector around the occupied town of Oleshky to prepare for a humanitarian operation. The pause applies only to the vicinity of Oleshky itself and does not cover the surrounding areas along the Dnipro River.

Around three and a half hours after the ceasefire entered into force, no violations had been reported.

Despite the halt in ground fire in the town’s area, both Russian and Ukrainian drones are still flying over the wider region at roughly similar levels. These unmanned aircraft are used for reconnaissance, artillery spotting, and strike missions.

Oleshky has become one of the main staging grounds for Russian drone operators in this sector. Basing drone units close to the front shortens response times but keeps the town tied directly to ongoing operations.

Russia has not released details about the nature or duration of the stated humanitarian operation, or about any outside involvement. Ukraine has not publicly confirmed coordinated arrangements for the pause.

The Dnipro line near Oleshky remains a critical axis. Control of settlements and crossings there will shape any later attempts by Ukraine to expand positions on the east bank or by Russia to adjust its own posture.

Key signals to watch are whether the ceasefire remains in place through the end of the humanitarian action, whether shelling resumes immediately afterward, and whether similar localized pauses appear in other contested settlements along the river.
