Russian Offensive Near Omelnyk Aims to Build Flank for Possible Move on Orikhiv

Russian forces are pushing in the Omelnyk direction in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, seeking to form a broad right flank toward Ukrainian-held Orikhiv after earlier fighting around the town had shifted in Ukraine’s favour.

Russian troops are pressing an offensive northeast of Orikhiv in the Omelnyk direction in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, in what observers describe as an effort to shape a large right flank toward the town.

Reporting from 25 October notes that while the situation near Orikhiv itself had largely turned in favour of Ukraine, the picture is different to the northeast. There, Russian forces continue to attack with the stated goal of building a wide flank that could threaten Orikhiv from the side rather than directly from the front.

This push concentrates on areas northeast of Orikhiv, around Omelnyk, where Russian units are trying to improve their positions. If they succeed in advancing, they could complicate Ukraine’s defence of the town by putting pressure on Ukrainian supply routes and positions from a new axis.

For Ukrainian commanders, the challenge lies in holding recently improved lines near Orikhiv while preventing Russian forces in the Omelnyk sector from gaining ground that would make a later encirclement attempt more realistic.

Changes in control of specific villages or terrain features northeast of Orikhiv, and any visible shifts in how both sides deploy artillery and reserves in this part of the front, will indicate whether the Russian effort in the Omelnyk direction is stalling or gathering momentum.
