Russian Glide Bombs Hit Zaporizhzhia Bridge as Drone Strike Ignites Fire at Odesa Pig Farm Warehouse
Russian forces struck the Vantovyy Bridge in Zaporizhzhia with KAB glide-bombs and used a Geran-4 drone to hit warehouse facilities on a pig farm in Avanhard, Odesa Oblast, triggering a large fire. Traffic over the bridge was temporarily halted, and emergency services responded to the blaze at the farm.
Russian attacks overnight turned both a major river crossing in Zaporizhzhia and an agricultural site in Odesa region into strike locations, as glide-bombs and a jet-powered drone hit infrastructure far from the front line.
In Zaporizhzhia City, Russian KAB guided glide-bombs targeted the Vantovyy (Vantovy) Bridge across the Dnieper River. Initial reports around 02:33 UTC described the city under attack from KAB glide-bombs, with at least four impacts recorded. Follow-up information specified that the strikes had been aimed at the bridge itself.
At least six KAB glide-bombs were used against the Vantovyy Bridge. The attack led to traffic being temporarily halted in both directions while the scale of damage and the number of direct impacts were still being assessed. A video recorded after the strike showed the result of the attack on the bridge at coordinates 47.8418, 35.0817.
The Vantovyy Bridge carries road traffic across the Dnieper in a region where major crossings are limited. Even a temporary shutdown forces vehicles onto alternative routes and complicates movement around Zaporizhzhia City. Officials had not yet detailed the extent of structural damage in the immediate aftermath, focusing first on closing the bridge to traffic.
Several hours earlier and hundreds of kilometers away, a different type of weapon hit an agricultural facility. At 22:03 on 6 October, a Geran-4 jet-powered drone struck warehouse facilities located on the territory of a pig farm in the settlement of Avanhard in Odesa Oblast. The report, which repeated the timestamp and description, said the target was hit and that a large-scale fire was recorded at the site.
The Avanhard strike was geolocated to 46.463818, 30.614310. The warehouses sat within an agrarian area on the grounds of a pig farm, underscoring how agricultural and storage sites are now within the set of targets exposed to drone attacks.
While local authorities have yet to release full damage reports for either the Vantovyy Bridge or the Avanhard farm warehouses, two immediate consequences are clear: vehicles were stopped from crossing one of Zaporizhzhia’s key bridges, and fire crews in Odesa region had to respond to a significant blaze at a farm facility.
Further updates on traffic restrictions in Zaporizhzhia and any official assessment of losses at the Avanhard warehouses will determine how long these disruptions last and whether repairs or reconstruction will be required.
