Russian Guided Bomb Attack on Sumy Injures at Least Five and Damages Apartment Buildings

Russian forces dropped five guided aerial bombs on the city of Sumy, injuring at least five people, two of them in serious condition. Apartment blocks and cars were damaged in the strike, highlighting the risk to civilians in northern Ukraine.

A Russian airstrike on the city of Sumy injured at least five people and damaged residential buildings, according to Ukrainian reports early Sunday.

Local officials said Russian forces dropped five guided aerial bombs on the city. Initial figures indicated at least five people were hurt, with two reported to be in serious condition. The attack damaged multi‑storey apartment buildings and cars in the area.

Sumy lies in northern Ukraine near the Russian border and has been under threat since the full‑scale invasion began. The use of guided bombs against residential areas again underlines the danger for civilians living in cities away from the main front lines.

The strike came as Ukrainian air defence reported a wider overnight attack, saying 125 out of 135 Russian aerial targets were shot down or suppressed across the country, with impacts recorded at several locations and debris from downed objects falling on others.

What happens next will depend on whether Russian forces keep using guided aerial bombs against cities in northern Ukraine and whether Kyiv shifts more air defence resources to protect regions like Sumy.
