Russian Geran Drones Hit Kyiv’s Northern Bridge and Strike Area Around Southern Bridge

Russian Geran-4 and Geran-5 drones struck Kyiv’s Northern Bridge and hit the area of the Southern Bridge, damaging infrastructure and forcing the closure of at least one major crossing over the Dnieper River.

Russian Geran-series drones have damaged key crossings over the Dnieper River in Kyiv, disrupting movement across the capital and underscoring how exposed the city’s bridges are to long-range strikes.

Video and location data shared online show a Geran drone hitting the Southern Bridge area in Kyiv, including an impact on the bridge’s cables at coordinates around 50.3945–50.3949 latitude and 30.5881–30.592 longitude. The material confirms a strike in the immediate vicinity of this major river crossing, although the full extent of structural damage isn’t yet clear from the available footage.

Separately, a Russian Geran-4/5 jet-powered drone struck the Northern (Pivnichnyi) Bridge across the Dnieper River. Following the attack, the Northern Bridge was closed to traffic in both directions. Reports from the city described large traffic jams in parts of Kyiv as drivers were forced to reroute away from the span.

The Russian Ministry of Defence later stated that it had targeted the "Northern" road bridge in Kyiv, describing it as being used to transport troops and logistics to the frontline. In the same statement, the ministry said it had struck the "Hostomel" logistics centre in the city of Hostomel, which it claimed stores military equipment, and also asserted that a dry cargo ship was struck. These claims come from the Russian MoD and have not been independently verified.

Inside Kyiv, local information channels reported that the Northern Bridge’s roadway and trolleybus contact network were damaged and that traffic from the left to the right bank was blocked. The city’s mayor said emergency services were heading to the site after the strike.

Dnieper crossings are central to Kyiv’s daily life and to its wartime logistics. Damage that forces even temporary closures quickly produces long delays, complicates the work of emergency responders, and can affect how people move between homes, workplaces, and critical services on opposite banks of the river.

The Geran-4 and Geran-5 are described as jet-powered drones capable of striking fixed infrastructure at range. Their use against bridges highlights how relatively inexpensive unmanned aircraft can threaten urban chokepoints that are difficult and time-consuming to repair.

Signals to watch now include how long the Northern Bridge remains closed, whether Ukrainian authorities impose new restrictions around the Southern Bridge as its condition is assessed, and any further Russian statements or geolocated footage indicating continued focus on Kyiv’s river crossings and nearby logistics hubs.
