Russian Geran drone strikes kill 14‑year‑old in Kyiv and hit homes and postal sites in Odesa region
Russian drones, including Geran‑type systems, hit Kyiv, Odesa region and other Ukrainian cities overnight, killing a 14‑year‑old boy and damaging apartment blocks, homes, warehouses and industrial buildings.
Overnight strikes by Russian drones turned parts of Kyiv, Odesa region and other Ukrainian cities into active target zones on 25 September, killing a teenager in the capital and damaging housing and logistics facilities along the Black Sea coast.
Kyiv’s military administration reported that a 14‑year‑old boy was killed in the city following a Russian strike. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a drone hit a multi‑storey residential building in the Pecherskyi district at the level of the 7th to 10th floors.
The capital was still dealing with previous damage as well. In the Solomyanskyi and Podilskyi districts, Russian Geran‑4 jet‑powered drones had struck industrial buildings, leaving visible destruction at those sites.
To the south, officials in Odesa region reported a series of heavy strikes on the residential sector and on logistics premises belonging to a postal operator. One person was killed and another injured. Explosions were heard in or near Reni and Velykyi Dal'nyk in Odesa Oblast, as well as in Odesa City.
The attacks formed part of a wider Russian drone offensive across Ukraine. Ukrainian sources reported the use of Geran‑2 and Geran‑4 drones against locations ranging from Odesa and Mykolaiv in the south to Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih and Zaporizhzhia further inland. Russia carried out at least five Geran‑2/4 strikes on the northern suburbs of Zaporizhzhia City, causing fires.
Around Kyiv, regional authorities said three districts came under attack. In Boryspil district, a drone hit a woodworking enterprise, setting off a fire. In Brovary district, a warehouse building was damaged. In Obukhiv district, three private houses and four cars were damaged.
Ukraine’s air defenses reported shooting down or suppressing 267 out of 295 hostile drones during the night. That still left a number of drones reaching targets or falling in populated areas, with emergency services responding to multiple impact sites and fires.
The mix of casualties and damage shows how the Russian air campaign continues to reach deep into Ukraine’s urban areas and economic infrastructure. Apartment blocks, small businesses and postal logistics hubs are all within range of Geran‑type drones.
Signals to watch now include whether Russia changes the balance between drones and missiles in future salvos, and how Ukraine reallocates limited air‑defense assets among Kyiv, Odesa and industrial centers such as Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia as it tries to shield both civilians and key facilities.
