Russian Geran Drone Strikes Torch Ukrainian Warehouses, Shopping Centres and Ports Overnight
Russian forces used Geran drones and glide-bombs overnight to hit warehouses, shopping centres and port-linked facilities in Odesa, Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia, setting off large fires and damaging sites tied to food, retail and logistics.
Russian overnight strikes on Ukraine hit the kind of places that keep daily life running: supermarket warehouses, logistics depots, shopping centres and port facilities. The attacks set off large fires and underscored how far from the front line the war now reaches.
Ukraine’s air defenses reported intercepting or suppressing 147 out of 172 drones, but strikes and debris still affected 18 locations. Russian forces used Geran-2 and Geran-4 drones and, in at least one city, KAB guided glide-bombs.
In Odesa Oblast, Russia continued a sustained strike campaign. Geran-4 jet drones attacked a logistics warehouse complex in the town of Usatove (46.57977, 30.56511), northwest of Odesa city. Separate reporting from the same area said warehouses were completely destroyed at coordinates 46.5796, 30.5638.
Regional authorities said warehouse premises of a food supermarket chain were hit, and Ukrainian media reported that Silpo’s warehouses were attacked. Officials described the sites as part of a supermarket network’s storage facilities.
Farther south in Odesa Oblast, roughly 20 Geran-2 drones targeted the Izmail port area on the Danube River. Russia’s Ministry of Defence claimed the strikes hit port infrastructure used to unload and store materiel. There is no independent confirmation yet of what exactly was damaged.
In Kyiv Oblast, Russian forces kept up their use of Geran-4 jet drones. Overnight reporting said a warehouse facility in the city of Boyarka was hit and a large fire broke out. The Russian Ministry of Defence claimed a gas distribution station there was also struck, but that assertion hasn’t been visually confirmed.
Drones also hit a warehouse complex in the village of Schastlyve, Kyiv Oblast. Reports from the area said a warehouse was destroyed by a drone strike, with video showing a large fire. One account specified that Geran strike drones hit a warehouse complex in Schastlyve at coordinates around 50.37787, 30.78020, igniting a fire. Another geolocated report from Kyiv Oblast at 50.3781688, 30.7784688 described a fire after a Geran drone strike, with NASA satellites recording fire anomalies in the same area.
Zaporizhzhia city saw a different mix of weapons. Overnight, Russian forces used Geran-2/4 drones and KAB glide-bombs against targets in the city. Around six Geran drones were directed at two shopping centres, where large fires broke out after the strikes. Observers reported two or three additional drones hitting something in the southern suburbs. In the northwest of the city, four KAB glide-bombs struck an unknown target.
The pattern across these strikes points to sustained pressure on Ukraine’s rear areas. Warehouse destruction in Odesa and around Kyiv hits storage, distribution and logistics, while attacks on shopping centres in Zaporizhzhia damage commercial hubs and services in a city already under regular threat. Port infrastructure around Izmail faces continued risk from Geran-2 waves as Russia targets infrastructure it describes as handling materiel.
How long Russia can maintain this volume of Geran and glide-bomb use, whether Ukraine confirms damage to energy sites near Kyiv, and how quickly destroyed warehouses and shopping centres can be repaired or replaced will shape how disruptive this wave of strikes proves over the coming weeks.
