Yemen’s Houthis launched one of their most significant attacks in years on southern Saudi Arabia, striking air bases, Abha airport and an Aramco storage facility and wounding 73 civilians, according to the Saudi‑led coalition.
A major Houthi missile and drone assault on southern Saudi Arabia has wounded dozens of civilians and put air bases, airports and oil infrastructure under renewed threat.
Yemeni Houthi forces fired ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles at multiple targets including King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait, Abha International Airport, a large Aramco oil storage facility in Abha and other sites in the south, according to regional reports on 8 September. The salvo was described as the most significant Houthi attack on Saudi Arabia in a long period.
The Saudi‑led coalition said Houthi attacks on southern Saudi Arabia wounded 73 civilians and struck civilian and economic sites in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran. Coalition spokesman Turki al‑Maliki called the attacks a dangerous escalation and said the coalition would take measures against the threat.
The strikes brought risk back to cities where airports, oil infrastructure and nearby neighbourhoods sit within reach of missiles and drones. Commercial passengers using Abha airport, residents around economic facilities and personnel at the targeted bases were all exposed to potential impacts or falling debris.
