According to U.S. Southern Command, American forces intercepted a floating resupply station composed of several vessels that operated as a single unit. The command says the station was functioning in support of narcotrafficking linked to Los Choneros, one of Ecuador’s most prominent criminal organizations.
Before the station was destroyed, U.S. personnel removed the crew from the main vessel. Those individuals were then transferred to Ecuadorian authorities. After the handover, U.S. forces carried out an explosion to neutralize the structure.
The facility was effectively a floating fuel and supply point. Stations of this kind allow small, fast boats used by traffickers to extend their range without returning to port, making their movements less predictable and harder to track along the eastern Pacific routes.
By targeting this offshore node, the operation aims to disrupt a critical element of the logistics chain that supports long‑distance narcotrafficking from South America. Removing such infrastructure can force traffickers closer to shore or compel them to seek alternative, more costly methods to keep vessels at sea.
