Russian Night Barrage Hits Kyiv Region and Central Ukraine as New Banderol Missiles Appear
Russian forces launched a wide overnight attack using drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles that struck Kyiv region, Dnipro, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia and Mykolaiv, testing Ukraine’s air defenses and destroying homes, warehouses and a major shopping mall.
Russian forces carried out a broad overnight strike across Ukraine, combining drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles in attacks that stretched from the Kyiv region through Dnipropetrovsk and Poltava to Zaporizhzhia and Mykolaiv.
Initial reports described Russia launching another large-scale attack using hundreds of drones, with explosions and damage recorded in Kyiv, Mykolaiv and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. In Kyiv Oblast alone, regional authorities said that 28 sites across five districts were hit the previous day, and that attacks continued into the morning. According to the regional administration, damaged sites included warehouses, educational institutions, private houses, apartment buildings, vehicles, fuel-station equipment and an administrative building. Officials later added that private houses were also damaged in three more districts.
In Dnipro and surrounding areas of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, a new Russian cruise missile type, the S8000 Banderol, was reported in multiple strikes. Local channels noted repeated explosions in the Samar district of Dnipro, stating that at least five Banderol cruise missiles had attacked the city, with one missile reported shot down over Dnipro. Separate footage showed a Banderol flying over Poltava City before later impact, and regional reports said Poltava City was also attacked by Banderol cruise missiles.
Further incidents were recorded across central and southern Ukraine. In Pavlohrad in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, regional authorities said Russian attacks caused cargo trucks to catch fire. In the Poltava community, a drone strike on a private enterprise’s warehouse damaged nearby houses. In Zaporizhzhia City, Russian Geran‑4 jet drones hit an enterprise in the northern suburbs, leading to a fire.
In Mykolaiv, a drone strike destroyed the Epicenter shopping mall, with satellite imagery confirming that the complex was completely destroyed. In the same wave of strikes, Kyiv Oblast saw a Makita warehouse in Brovary catch fire after a Geran drone hit, and a Geran‑4 jet‑powered drone struck the Santa Ukraina logistics warehouse in Sviatopetrivske, causing a major blaze.
The combination of drone attacks, Banderol cruise missiles and ballistic strikes forced Ukraine’s air defenses to respond on multiple fronts. The reported interception of one Banderol missile over Dnipro shows some successes, but damage to civilian housing, warehouses and the Mykolaiv mall illustrates the limits of protection against a large, mixed strike package.
Key indicators in the coming days will include further details on the number of Banderol missiles used and intercepted, adjustments in air defense deployments around Dnipro and Poltava, and any additional reports of large-scale damage to civilian infrastructure. Repeated use of Banderol missiles against major cities, or a shift in targeting toward new regions, would suggest that this cruise missile has become a regular part of Russia’s campaign against Ukraine’s interior.
