Ukraine Claims Drone and Missile Strikes on Russian Airbase, Drone Hubs and Command Posts
Ukraine reports that drones and long-range strikes hit Russia’s Yeysk airfield, drone storage and launch sites in occupied Donetsk and Crimea, and command and communications nodes in occupied Zaporizhzhia and Luhansk regions, aiming to disrupt Russian air defenses and attack-drone operations.
As Russia steps up missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities, Kyiv says it is striking back at the infrastructure that enables those barrages by hitting airfields, drone hubs and command posts in Russian and occupied territory.
Ukraine’s 1st Separate Center of Unmanned Systems Forces reported that its drones struck Russia’s Yeysk airfield overnight on 30 August. According to the unit, three targets were hit: a Pantsir-S1 air defense system, a Sopka-2 (12L6) radar and an aviation weapons depot.
Separately, Ukraine’s General Staff said that overnight operations hit multiple Russian facilities in occupied areas. In Donetsk and in Hvardiiske in temporarily occupied Crimea, Ukrainian forces reportedly struck locations used for the storage, preparation and launch of attack drones.
In Myrne, in temporarily occupied Crimea, Ukraine reported hitting a Russian communications node. In Polohy in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, a Russian command-and-observation post was said to be damaged. In Verkhnokamianka in Luhansk Oblast, Ukraine reported a strike on an area where Russian military equipment was concentrated.
These claims have not been independently verified but align with recent patterns of Ukrainian long-range strikes on depots, radars and command points supporting Russian operations.
For Russian forces, such attacks complicate the defense of rear-area infrastructure they rely on to stage aircraft, launch drones and coordinate units along the front.
Key developments to watch include satellite imagery or visual evidence confirming damage at Yeysk and other reported sites, and any shift in the tempo or effectiveness of Russian missile and drone attacks that Ukraine links to these strikes.
