**Deck**: Volodymyr Zelensky says Russia has agreed to a trilateral meeting of Ukrainian, U.S. and Russian delegations as early as November, even as Russia launches missiles at Kyiv and Ukraine hits command posts and depots in occupied territory.

Ukraine is preparing for direct talks involving Moscow and Washington while the war continues to play out in missile salvos and deep strikes.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has said Russia agreed to a trilateral meeting of Ukrainian, U.S. and Russian delegations, with Washington proposing that it happen as soon as possible. Ukraine hopes the talks can be held in early November to prepare a potential leaders’ meeting with Donald Trump, Zelensky and Vladimir Putin.

U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff described earlier discussions as constructive and said that talks would continue in a trilateral, technical format, according to Ukrainian readouts. Ukrainian officials have stressed that significant work remains.

On the ground, fighting has not eased. Ukraine’s General Staff reported that on 20 October and overnight into 21 October, Defense Forces struck Russian command posts near Luhansk and Kurakhove and logistics depots near Yani Kapu in occupied Crimea and Chystiakove in Donetsk region. The targets were command and supply assets.

During the same period, Ukrainian authorities reported ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv and warned of a ballistic threat in regions under air raid alerts. Local administrations in the capital said private residential houses and a gas station in the Dniprovskiy or Dniprovskyi district were damaged, and a vehicle service station was hit in the Dniprovskyi or Dnipropetrovsk area, with at least two people injured.

The diplomacy is unfolding against this backdrop of active operations. Kyiv has also reported that Russia agreed to a trilateral meeting at the level of commands, and Ukrainian officials have said that constructive talks will continue at a technical level.

How these tracks interact will become clearer if the November meeting is formally scheduled, if either side links frontline developments to its negotiating stance, or if there is any observable change in the pattern of Russian strikes or Ukrainian deep attacks as the date approaches.
