Closer to the front, Ukrainian border guards are turning to automation to help close the gap. The Pomsta Border Guard Brigade says its Oberih unit used a smart automated turret to shoot down a Shahed near the Kharkiv–Donetsk regional border. The turret automatically acquires and tracks the target, with the operator responsible for firing. The unit says it has already downed nine Shaheds and eight Gerberas with this system.

Together, these reports show how Ukraine is trying to pair new development work at the national level with improvised, often cheaper defensive solutions in the field. The aim is to cover more roads, depots, and frontline positions without relying solely on scarce high-end air-defence systems.
